Cape Breton Island Tourism Training Network – The World Tourism Institute (WTI) at CBU, in partnership with Destination Cape Breton Association and Cape Breton Partnership, are launching a three-year Tourism Training and Research project. The goal of the project is to aid the Tourism Sector in post-pandemic recovery.
 
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:   
  • Manage and integrate the activities of multiple project operations; ensure that project efforts are cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting the WTI program mission, goals, and plan.
  • Develop and establish policies, strategies, and operating objectives consistent with those of the WTI to ensure efficient and effective implementation the project.
  • Collaborate with Project partners to establish programmatic goals and priorities.
  • Participate in, and oversee, the development, implementation, and maintenance of individual project objectives and short- and long-range plans; develop tracking and evaluation programs to assist in the accomplishment of established project goals and objectives and manage associated budgets.
  • Manage relationships with a diverse stakeholder group and support staff. Consult, coordinate, and serve as principal liaison with the Managing Director, WTI.
  • Coordinate the activity of the Program at CBU and work, as required, with Marketing and Communications and other CBU Departments.
  • Provide regular operational reports to the Managing Director, partners and, as needed, to ESDC.
  • Some travel will be required as will flexible hours of work.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in tourism, business administration, or another related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (i.e. a diploma and significant, relevant experience). A related graduate degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current developments and trends in Tourism generally and specific to Cape Breton Island. A knowledge and appreciation of Indigenous Tourism is considered an asset.
  • A knowledge of the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission with specific emphasis on training and education.
  • Experience within the post-secondary work environment. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of project management.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solution. Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team to meet project timelines, adapt to new technology and to learn and work independently.
  • Highly motivated, focused and results-oriented with the ability to meet expectations in a dynamic and customer-centric work environment.
  • The ability to work well with others, both internally and externally, from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • This management may be virtual in nature, where possible, in person meetings will be required.
  • Strong written, interpersonal and public communication skills.
