The Halifax Convention Centre, managed by Events East Group, is now inviting applicants for the position of Event Manager with our Event Management team. This position will play a key role in both preparing for our opening and supporting our busy event schedule set for 2018 and beyond! 

Reporting to the Senior Event Manager, the Event Manager is responsible to efficiently and effectively pre-plan the execution of contracted Halifax Convention Centre events, providing detailed, timely and accurate event information to Operations groups.  The Event Manager is also responsible to proactively engage in the Primary Point of Contact strategy, ensuring the delivery of memorable event experiences that define Halifax Convention Centre as a favored event destination. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Program and manage assigned Halifax Convention Centre events with focus on national, international and significant local/regional events
  • Adhere to Event Management policies and procedures regarding event detail programming and diagramming, supporting the efficient and timely delivery of event information to Operational teams
  • Manage event risk assessment and emergency planning
  • Proactively support Halifax Convention Centre’s Primary Point of Contact strategy
  • Promote and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive working environment adhering to all OHS regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedure.   
 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of post-secondary education required, with a focus in Hospitality/Tourism preferred
  • Industry certification an asset – CMP and/or CMM preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of recent, relevant industry experience in Event Management/Co-ordination
  • Enthusiastic, friendly individual with a professional attitude and collaborative mindset who enjoys being part of a team and provides exceptional service to clients & partners
  • Team leadership experience, enhanced through strong communication skills and proven abilities to both listen and speak effectively, as well follow instructions and provide clear directions
  • Strong computer proficiency; demonstrated knowledge of Ungerboeck and iPlan/Meeting Matrix would be considered an asset
  • Must be available to  work flexible hours in support of event scheduling, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required
