Job summary:
This job oversees the maintenance, service, and repair of all hotel equipment and the facilities. The Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring that all hotel equipment is properly serviced and functional, that the hotel grounds and facilities are maintained, and that training is provided for each department as to the proper operation and maintenance of departmental equipment.

Duties:
  • Supervise and train all Engineering staff.
  • Oversee all projects.
  • Coordinate all Engineering staff scheduling.
  • Coordinate all contractors working on projects.
  • Create and adhere to annual budget for the department.
  • Develop and implement plans to keep property, equipment, and grounds in an acceptable state of repair.
  • Create and implement preventive maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
  • Coordinate periodic inspection of all safety systems.
  • Ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to Guest Services. Take immediate action as necessary.
  • Design construction and repair projects.
  • Ensure engineering staff adheres to Loss Prevention guidelines
  • Comply at all times with New Castle standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
Education and Experience:
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory/managerial experience required, with a preference in an unionized environment.
  • Project management experience required.
  • Practical experience in one or more of the technical trades (HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.) preferred.
  • Previous experience with budgeting/forecasting & capitol planning.
  • Must have good working knowledge of excel, word and outlook
  • Any license the property may require.
Other Abilities, Skills or Knowledge:
  • Refrigeration, electrical and plumbing skills, boiler operation and maintenance skills, water treatment and chiller operation knowledge.
  • Must have a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of all legal issues in compliance with CFC/EPA/ IAQ/OH&S
  • Knowledge of energy management an asset
