Job Description:
Reporting to the General Manager and Director of Sales, as Sales and Catering Manager at the Hilton Garden Inn Halifax Airport you will be dedicated to creating exceptional experiences for our guests by delivering and maintaining the highest quality service standards in an extremely busy Food and Beverage environment.
  • Focus on consistent delivery of Hilton’s Vision, Mission, and Values by all team members
  • Promote hotel policies and procedures;  support internal networks i.e. Health & Safety
  • General administrative duties:  scheduling, ordering, inventories, beverage cost control, food cost control, labour cost control
  • Hiring, training, coaching and disciplinary responsibilities
  • Attend management meetings
  • Working closely with other departments to ensure exceptional service
  • Maintain cleanliness standards
  • Assist and direct hourly catering staff to ensure set-up, cleanup and reset of all utilized facilities takes place in a reasonable and timely manner.
  • Ensure staff has been assigned to adequately cover all events.

  • Perform Banquet Capitan role when required
  • Ensure catering staff is provided with training, leadership, direction and motivation in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Ensure function sheets are complete with explicit instructions and are utilized to provide accurate and timely service
  • Preparation of proposals, contracts and block space, and follow up with regard to room block.
  • Prospecting new customers and target lists, coordination of sales blitzes, and client service events.
  • Coordinating and conducting site inspections, local sales calls and client prospecting.
  • Managing Sales database (Sales & Events)
  • Proactively prospect and solicit new and repeat business using appropriate selling techniques
  • Managing incoming Catering requests and proactively soliciting new meeting Business.
  • Booking and managing meetings which include group contracts and banquet event orders for functions
  • Greet all in-house Conveners and assist with needs.
  • Following up on all events by sending out appropriate invoices and thank you letters
  • Assisting Director of Sales in strategic planning of budgets and programs including; advertising, public/media relations, local marketing, sales promotions, event marketing and collateral development.
  • General office administration including, filing, monitoring and replacement of collateral, office supplies, fax/photocopier maintenance etc.
 
Job Requirements:
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Must be available 7 days a week including holidays
  • Must have inventory control experience
  • Must have a driver's license (min Class 5)
  • Responsible Beverage Service Certificate Required
  • Minimum 2 years event/sales experience, preferably in a full service property
  • Superior written and spoken communications skills
  • Outstanding abilities to build and maintain relationships.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent time management with the ability to re-prioritize on a continual basis
  • Guest and Service oriented, pleasant personality, positive attitude and disposition;
  • Experienced in hospitality service with Banquet service background;
  • Extensive product knowledge food items and alcoholic beverages;
  • Proven sales ability
  • Excellent Computer Skills and must be proficient with MS Office
  • Continually striving to create new contacts and clients through industry networking
  • Ability to work well individually or as part of a team on both a departmental and interdepartmental
  • Preference will be given to those who have professional training certification including WHMIS, CRP. Emergency First Aid and Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
