Work Location: To be determined (Head Office located in Blockhouse, NS in May 2013)
Salary: $38,000 - $40,000 per annum
General Position Objectives:
Develop and maintain marketing strategies and progress reports; identify target markets and implement marketing programs.
Evaluate, research, identify and measure market conditions and opportunities.
Evaluate the communication plan and execute media and public relations programs to convey Association goals and objectives on issues and to promote events and information services.
Co-ordinate and communicate Association positions on policy, issues, and programs to members, tourism stakeholders, interest groups, provincial government agencies and organizations.
Assist in the maintenance and management of the DSWNA website.
Assist in the management of DSWNA communications both internally and externally.
Must be capable and have demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Marketing duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop, evaluate, research, identify and measure market conditions and conduct a needs assessment for the annual marketing plan.
Prepare and design the annual marketing plan within the timelines prescribed by the Executive Director.
Ensure the development, implementation and measurements of all marketing projects including managing the production of all advertising and promotional materials.
Plan and deliver in consultation with the marketing committee and the Executive Director the association’s marketing budget with the aim to support development of regional/local initiatives.
Manage DSWNA’s electronic marketing efforts and assist with website design and maintenance.
In consultation with the Executive Director prepare DSWNA’s RFP protocol process as it relates to the marketing plan including soliciting RFPs from competitive prospective suppliers and writing proposals for new business; participate in planning and presentation sessions.
Facilitate marketing development activities throughout the region including:
i. efforts through local/regional tourism groups and grassroot organizations;
ii. facilitation of local/regional meetings, presentations, etc.
Staff liaison with Marketing Committee.
Prepare monthly marketing reports for the Executive Director.
When required, assist/liaise with and support DSWNA’s involvement in various
networks/partnerships, including coordinating product development, membership, and marketing activities, attend public events; participate on external committees.
Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
Communications duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist to enhance, execute and evaluate the DSWNA Communications Plan.
Assist in writing, editing, and distribution of press releases, marketing updates, special announcements, Association updates to members, municipal units, media, industry operators etc.
Assist in maintaining, posting and developing web page content information that provides general Association and membership/industry information.
Work closely with DSWNA staff to develop or provide information in support for their communication and promotional activities.
Work with DSWNA staff to manage the members listings/partnership list.
Education and Experience:
University degree or equivalent experience. Concentration in Marketing/Business, or Public Relations or related field of study.
Three years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified acceptable to the employer.
Experience in public relations and managing media requests/relationships.
Proven success in developing and administering a marketing program.
Knowledge of Social Media and Digital Marketing Techniques.
Background in a not-for-profit destination marketing organization and knowledge of the Tourism Industry in Nova Scotia is an asset.
Proven ability to be a strategic thinker and meet deadlines.
Bilingualism would be an asset.
Technical and Behavioral Skills:
Must be a self-starter, highly organized with the ability to meet production deadlines, and able to work well with all levels of stakeholders in the tourism industry and within the organization. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to give and receive direction, as well as the willingness to work within a team environment. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications. Excellent listening and presentation skills, along with proven attention to detail and a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
